Never bite the hands that serve you, too!

We’ve all heard that quote before but not phrased this way. What does this phrase mean? Simply put, never be ungrateful and mistreat someone who has helped and/or supported you. It seems simple enough, but sometimes it’s not always that simple to consider others or boost morale. Our jobs can be very stressful! We all have bad days resulting in emotions that can get the best of us. But what happens when those emotions manifest into habitually bad behavior and mistreatment? It creates an environment ripe with strife. This is especially true when leadership is the root of said strife.

Leaders! Give Them a Boost!

As a leader, you are a delegator, communicator, role model, visionary, and motivator among other things. You have big shoes to fill, and your job is not easy! The stress of keeping everything running smoothly while escaping looming thoughts of demotion or job loss is hard! While this may be the case, as a leader, always remember that your employees not only serve your customers and clients but you too!

It is important to show how much you value your employees. One type of employee that I’ve found that does not get much appreciation is frontline employees. Frontline employees are the individuals who work directly with customers and clients. They are the glowing face of your company. The most essential asset to your organization. They ARE the glue that keeps your organization together. Happy employees produce good fruit. Below 5 great ways to show you care!

5 Ways To Show You Care

Acknowledge Hard Work

A compliment other than “great job” will do. “Hey Sue, I really like the layout change in the report! Maybe we can present this to our colleagues during our meeting for additional input.” At times, when we acknowledge even the little things, our employees go the extra mile.

Responsible Autonomy, Not Micromanaging

Can you see the forest for the trees? Do you have to control everything? Can you delegate responsibilities? Is any idea a good idea? If you’ve answered “no,” then you are a micromanager. Look in front of you, not there. Give a little and delegate responsibilities to your employees. Encourage independent thought and be open to new ideas. Employees feel valued when their voices are heard not silenced.

Cultivate Culture with New Traditions

Hold monthly team-building sessions or social events. Bowling, parties, or employee(s) of the month-type activities. These activities will boost morale, strengthen bonds, and improve communication among employees. They also improve trust, which goes a long way in the workplace!

Wellness Programs

Healthy me, Healthy you, Healthy we! The general health and well-being of an individual is important. Wellness programs are used as preventive measures to help avoid illnesses, thereby maintaining employee health. Benefits include engagement and productivity boosts, weight loss, healthier habits, alleviated stress, and much more.

Effective Training and Efficacy

There are more ways than 5 to show how much you appreciate your employees. Others can include reward systems or financial systems. Sometimes genuine and heartfelt expressions can be enough. What matters most is that your employees know they are valued.
